Death of the Experience Economy
Everyone wants a terrific experience, but implementation is a different matter.
It’s been 9 years now since the publication of Joseph Pine and James Gilmore’s influential book, The Experience Economy. Their excellent work has inspired thousands of conference sessions in nearly every industry, all devoted to the importance of excelling with the customer experience.
One Response to “Death of the Experience Economy”
The one thing I wish you had addressed in your article on the Experience Economy is the weird stuff that Pine and Gilmore get into toward the back of their book. This is where they declare wisdom as transformative agent. While conference sessions often address the basics of the Experience Economy, I have never heard anyone address their chapter about “finding your role in the world”. I suspect the Experience Economy finale has something to do with Pine and Gilmore’s dedication: “To the Author and Perfecter of our faith.” Whatever they are saying, I find it confusing.
